Whether you were on the winning side of the election last night, the losing side, or voted third party remember, we are all Americans. We shouldn't gloat about "being right" or shame others for their vote. We all have a voice in this country, that's how it should be. We need to come together as a people and make things better for future generations, in fact, we owe it to future generations to do so.
Please, don't resort to hate because of fear. There is too much of that going around these days. Instead, have a discussion with your fellow Americans, try to see things from their point of view. Ask why they think Trump will make a good leader, or ask why they are afraid of him. When we communicate as a people we drive ourselves forward, we drive our nation forward. When we argue and bicker and place blame we only delay our progress. That delay hurts the nation for generations. We need to strive to always be better than those who came before us.
And please, don't only be a part of politics during election year. There is so much you can do everyday that can help make a difference. Your voice doesn't only count every four years but every single day. Write letters to your congressmen, sign petitions, get involved. Be the change you want to see in the country. Don't just vote for some stranger and hope they will do it all for you. There is still so much we can do as a country, so much more we need to do.
This Friday is Veteran's Day. Let's remember to thank all those who fought and died for our freedom to go to the polls yesterday, whether or not you agree with the outcome. Let's remember that we are humans first and to not divide ourselves as Democrats and Republicans, we're so much more than that.
In honor of Veterans day, my novel Death Can Wait will be on sale for $.99 starting Friday, November 11th until Thanksgiving. Pick up a copy and enjoy some wonderful escapism from all of this post election negativity!
Evan Bond, author of To the Wolves and Death Can Wait, is a thriller/suspense author. When not writing, he can be found hiking or camping in the beautiful state of Florida.
